When internal support felt inaccessible,
Be A Happy Lawyer
® filled the gap

Before the Programme | I don't have any mentorship or any kind of guidance on what to do when I'm in a tricky situation at work, so I was very keen to get involved and speak to other people and get a sense of whether it's just my environment or if it's an issue with the profession. I've only ever been at one firm since I was a trainee, so you don't really know how things work on the other side.”

Why Internal Support Wasn’t Enough | “My firm has all these resources, but I don’t know how confidential they are. It doesn’t feel sincere. I just don’t have faith in relying on my firm to help me.”

What Shifted | “I'll never forget the first Be A Happy Lawyer® session: we went into a breakout room and we had to say why we were there, and the person I was with was like, ‘My environment is not like yours at all!’ And I was like, ‘Oh, wow, okay! So clearly it is not like this everywhere!’”

What I Learned | “The material has helped me reflect a lot. It forced me to think if this is what I want to be doing, and also how to navigate certain difficult situations. And it made me realise that obviously life isn't perfect, but it's about what you want to manage and deal with, and what you can't tolerate.”

The Impact | “This programme is a meeting point to reflect and get tools on how to navigate the legal profession. Sometimes it is heavy, because you're reflecting, and sometimes it's not because you're speaking about things that aren't weighing you down at the moment. It is a beneficial platform to interact with like-minded people and gain the tools ― I don't want to be cheesy, but ― to be a happy lawyer.”
